POEMS for the oldest child in the family: “Talking Helps” (poem for my granddaughter) by Trina Graves

Talking Helps

Precious, darling Sophie Ann-Marie
You are special to all your family
There is no other in the whole world like you
You’re love and kindness shines right through

You’re beautiful and have such a lovely smile
You’re thoughtful and caring all the while
Clever and good at everything you do
Your future’s so bright, it’s up to you

You are the oldest child in your family
With Amy and Lowen, that makes three
Mum and Dad were the oldest in their families too
So they know just what it’s like to be you

Sometimes it’s just plain boring to be the one
Who’s asked to do the jobs that need to be done
But being the oldest has many benefits too
With lots of fun, more grown-up things to do

Mum and Dad are so busy all day long
With so much to do, you might think it’s wrong
To tell them about that worry in your head
So you keep it to yourself and nothing is said

But little thoughts can build up and make you sad
Then before you know it, you start to feel bad
You might have to wait, but you just have to say
“Mum or Dad, I need to talk to you sometime today”

Because even when they’re busy with much to do
They are the ones who will always help you
There is nothing in this world they wouldn’t give
To help you be happy and loved as long as you live

So whenever you need someone to share
Your worries and concerns, they always care
Don’t bottle up those thoughts, let them out
Talking about things helps, without a doubt

Dear Trina, This poem is so beautiful and resonates how as a grandparent we see and feel things about our grandkids that sometimes their parents are too close to see the things that may be troubling them. I know my grandaughter whose is 12 is going through emotional and physical changes that she keeps inside as well! Your grandchildren are blessed to have such a caring and insightful grandma. Blessings to you and your family! Linda Thankyou Amira for posting this touching poem! Love you ! Linda
