A POEM OF INSPIRATION, A SONG, A CREDO TO LIVE BY: “DESIDERATA”
Desiderata in Latin means: “things that are yearned for or desired”, in this poem it could be interpreted as things to strive for or essential things.
American writer Max Ehrmann (1872-1945) wrote this poem in 1927 even though it’s sometimes believed to have been written as earlier as 1692 because the Reverend Frederick Kates included this poem in a compilation of materials of devotional nature for his congregation of the Saint Paul’s Church in Baltimore, Maryland. This church was founded in 1692.
In any case, still remains to this day a source of inspiration and a credo to live by.
Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
