ROMANTIC POEMS by Juan Ramón Jiménez (Poemas románticos)

THE POET REMEMBERS A WOMAN
ON A BRIDGE OVER THE GUADALQUIVIR:
Above the bright star of the sunset,
like a silver crescent, the moon
shines in the rosy twilight
and in the depths of the dark water.
The river flows with a quiet sound
of crystal shadow
under the stone bridge. Slow river
that sings your name to me, my soul
would like to drop into your pure current
the most tender flowering branch
that spring has kindled
on the green almond trees of your bank.
I would like to see it fall, and float, and lose itself
in your clear waves.
And I feel like crying… My heart will float
away with you into your rippled distance.
O, an afternoon like that, and a slow river
of crystalline shadows!…
Above the bright star of the sunset
the silvery moon shines.

quiere arrojar a tu corriente pura
la ramita más tierna y mas florida,
que encienda primavera
en los verdes almendros de tu orilla!
Quiero verla caer, seguir, perderse
sobre tus ondas limpias.
Y he de llorar… Mi corazón contigo
flotará en tus rizadas lejanías.
¡Oh tarde como aquélla, y río lento
de sombra cristalina!…
Sobre la clara estrella del ocaso
la argéntea luna brilla.
