“Light your lamp” by Amado Nervo (Enciende tu lámpara)

Light your lamp

Light your lamp
As soon as night falls, light your lamp.

Do not stay in the dark.

Light your lamp carefully.

The traveler who passes will say: “how much repose there must be near that light, and how much peace”.

The lonely woman who distinguishes it from afar, will think: “there must nest love, two who love each other are bathed in the same soft glow …”

The child who contemplates it will exclaim: “maybe there are children around the table, and they read beautiful stories and look at wonderful pictures”.

The stealthy thief will murmur with suspicion: “there lives a prepared man who can not be attacked by surprise”.

Many, when entering the jungle, will feel comforted by your light.

Truly I tell you that it is merciful, in the first shadows, to light our lamp: the good lamp that the Father has provided to the walkers of life.
